Why Major in Precision Nutrition & Wellness

Do you want to know why a certain diet or exercise plan seems to work for one person and not another? Or why some populations are more vulnerable to diseases like diabetes, cancer, and heart disease?

The precision nutrition and wellness program at the University of Arizona places you at the forefront of exciting research into the relationship between genetics, diet, and lifestyle. You’ll explore human genetic diversity, human evolution, the relationship between genetics and nutrition/metabolism, statistics, data science, physiology, biochemistry, biomarkers, and genomic counseling as these sciences develop to meet the future. You’ll apply the latest technology to help assess the risk of developing illnesses like cancer and cardiovascular disease and to test possible diet and exercise changes using genetic and lifestyle markers. You’ll learn to navigate the rapidly expanding marketplace of direct-to-consumer, genetically based tests, to identify those that are vital to human health, and to determine the effectiveness of new ones as they emerge.

A degree in precision nutrition and wellness prepares you for a wide range of health and science careers in areas such as health care, biomedical research, and food and nutrition policy.
